WHO: Artist Geoff Chilton will teach you for this 3-week course, offering guidance whilst giving you full creative freedom

WHAT: In this three week course professional artist Geoff Chilton shows how to free up your landscape painting using mixed media. 

The first week will introduce various media and how they can be used to gather material in the form of quick sketches from the landscape, and develop mark-making techniques.

In the second week Geoff will show students how to develop a painting (from sketches done in the first week) using different abrasive media - pencil, charcoal, pastels and collage) on top of a base acrylic painting. Learn how balancing tone and composition can enhance your work and direct the viewer’s eye.

The third week will bring all the elements of the previous weeks together to create a finished piece of your own. Geoff will guide students through all the stages of the process and show how this style of painting can help produce a loose, free visceral expression of the landscape - an emotional reaction to what you see. 

All materials will be provided for the workshop, but if you want to bring any of your own favourite paints and brushes, that’s fine. Similarly, if you have your own sketchbook and favourite pencils and want to work with them, that’s okay too.
