Birds & Bees Jewellery workshop w. Frances Noon - 10/5/25 @G2

Make a bird or bee pendant this Spring!

WHO: Frances will be your tutor for the day, this workshop is perfect for all abilities; absolute beginners, intermediate or advanced- everyone can achieve a great result in this full day workshop.

WHAT: Birds & bees jewellery workshop, using Pebeo porcelain paint

Learn how to make a pendant or a brooch in metal and then add colour to the surface using pebeo porcelain paints.

On this one day course participants will form a pendant and/or a brooch from sheet metal. This will be hand painted using the pebeo porcelain paint. There is the possibility within the one day course to make a pendant and a brooch piece.

You will first cut out your design from brass sheet metal, using a piercing saw, snips and then filing the edges down so they are smooth. Add details such as eyes and beak definition onto the surface using hammer and punch. This would likely be kept to the minimum, but additional details such as legs can be added in wire and soldered to the piece.

Finally you will use the pebeo porcelain 150 paints to add colour to the surface of your design. As these paints need a 24 hr time period to dry before they are baked in an oven, participants will have to leave their pieces with us for firing.

For pendants you will put together a brass effect chain to the length of your choice. And a brooch back will be glued to any brooches before work is returned via post (+ £3pp) or collected from the studio the following Monday onwards.

WHERE: Globe 2, Holme Mills, West Slaithwaite, HD7 6LS

WHEN: Saturday 10th May, 10-5pm

WHY: It has tremendous known benefits for your hand-eye coordination, visual perception, and memory. Jewelry making keeps your brain active and fine tunes your motor skills through the grasping of tools and materials, understanding new processes and terms. Crafting contributes greatly to improved self-esteem!

HOW MUCH: £70pp or bring a friend and get 2 tickets for £130 (£65pp)

WHO: Geoff Chilton is a fantastic local artist, and is a new addition to our family of studio holders and freelance tutors! Geoff has an amazing artistic background and knowledge to share with you.

WHAT: In this half day workshop, professional artist Geoff Chilton shows you how to free up your landscape painting using mixed media. This workshop is suitable for all abilities - a great opportunity for beginners & intermediates to grow their confidence and develop skills!

The first part of the session will be to gather material in the form of quick sketches and drawings from the rural landscape around Holme Mill. This will take us around 30 to 40 minutes (bring a sketchbook and pencil, and dress for the weather!)

The main part of the workshop will be about learning to develop your mark-making skills and how to use different abrasive media on top of a base acrylic painting. Learn how to use broad gestural marks to put intensity and emotion into your work.

The workshop is all about a visceral response to the landscape - a continuing series of reactions to what you see with ‘no holds barred’ free expression.

All materials will be provided for the workshop, but if want to bring any of your own favourite paints and brushes, please feel welcome to do so! Similarly, if you have your own sketchbook and favourite pencils and want to work with them, that’s okay too.

Procreate for Beginners w. Jane Horton - 5/2/25 @G1

Want to learn how to use Procreate?

WHO: Jane is an illustrator and printmaker and uses Procreate on her iPad as a tool to help develop her designs. She has illustrated several books and designed two colouring books. She loves showing her grandchildren how to paint using Procreate. Follow her @artyjaneh on Instagram.

‘Procreate for beginners’ is Jane’s first workshop for Globe Arts. Procreate is a powerful tool designed for artists and illustrators, on the iPad. It’s acknowledged as one of the best digital painting tools available. Just bring your iPad to the workshop, and download Procreate onto your IPad before you arrive.

It’s a fun introduction to the powerful tools in Procreate. You’ll learn about the myriad of brushes and exciting effects you can use, how to select colours, and save what you’ve done. Jane will show you how to draw and paint on the iPad using reference photos saved on your iPad as well as drawing from observation using your finger or an Apple Pencil. At the end of the workshop you’ll feel confident to draw and paint using Procreate and eager to explore more Procreate tools and techniques in future.

WHAT: Procreate is a digital drawing app available on Apple iPads and is popular amongst digital artists. Procreate is a fantastic software for digital art, but can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to the different tools and techniques! If you’ve been wanting to explore Procreate but don’t know where to start, Jane will be running this one off workshop for beginners to help them increase their confidence and understanding of Procreate - use to learn the software to its full potential! Experiment with layers, opacity and techniques.

PLEASE NOTE: You must bring your own Apple iPad with iOS of 15.4.1 or newer with you, already have downloaded Procreate (it is a one-time £12.99 with no further subscription/purchases).

WHERE: Globe Arts Studio, Carr Lane, Slaithwaite, HD7 5AG. Upstairs in the gallery

WHEN: Wednesday 5th February 6.30 - 8.30pm

WHY: Digital art is becoming increasingly popular - even artists such as David Hockney have ventured into this new technological technique! Digital art is a great for on-the-go creativity (easier than carrying materials around) and is useful for those wanting to turn their creations into cards etc.

HOW MUCH: £25

Ceramic Sculpture - Funny Creatures - 29/1/25 @G2

Join Lauren for this fun one off workshop at G2, where you can create a 3D ceramic creature in 3 hours!

Come along on 29th January

Using a photo you might want to bring along of your own pet, an image on your phone of your favourite animal, or using our examples as inspiration - you'll have Lauren showing you step by step how to build something from a ball of clay.

Colour and texture will be added in the second half of the workshop, and they'll be ready once dried, and fired in the kiln, in about 3 weeks time (we don't want the to explode so they need a long time for the moisture to escape)

Please note: If the course/class has less than 5 clients booked, there is a chance of the course/class being cancelled. For this reason, we recommend booking sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. If the course is cancelled, we will offer a full refund or transfer to a similar course/class.
