Join us at Globe 2 for this masterclass as you learn to throw large vessels
WHO: Join David Preston for this one-off workshop, throwing large vessels.
WHEN: Monday 11th August, for intermediate/ advanced clients only. You will be throwing with 5lbs of clay, so please only book if you feel confident to use this amount of clay.
WHAT: This workshop is ideal for potters who are comfortable on the wheel and ready to explore throwing with larger amounts of clay. Designed to help you scale up your work, the session covers both preparation and throwing techniques to support the transition to bigger forms.
The workshop includes demonstrations on preparing and wedging larger clay portions, followed by practical guidance on centering, opening, and pulling up more substantial weights. Students will then spend the bulk of the session practicing at the wheel, working on one or two larger pieces with individual instruction and feedback.
Expect a supportive and hands-on environment with a strong emphasis on improving control, technique, and confidence when working at scale.
Before booking you should be confident throwing with smaller amounts of clay.
Please book a 5/6 week course if you dont know the basics of throwing yet, we suggest a minimum of 40 hours throwing practice and knowledge before booking a workshop like this.
