Howard Asher Garden Gallery fund

from £5.00

We are asking for donations of any amount, big or small, to help us transform our outdoor green area into a beautiful, accessible, interactive Garden Gallery space for people of all ages to enjoy - for free!

The Howard Asher Garden Gallery has been in existence since we launched it at our previous site, Carr Lane in Slawit, in June 2021. It was opened by Sue Asher, wife of Howard, as part of the WOVEN festival celebrations. Howard was a fabulous textile designer in his working life, and one of our Non-Executive Directors in his retirement. When he passed, we wanted to commemorate Howard; his dedication to the arts and his beautiful spirit - the garden seemed fitting, with its colourful and uplifting energy.

But, we need your help to make it even better!

When we moved to Holme Mills, Marsden, one of the parts we loved the most about the location was the lush grassy area outside Globe 1 building, and immediately we decided that it would become our new HAGG. Now we are settled into our 2 buildings on the site, so it’s finally time we gave it some proper attention!

We have big ideas to help bring the community into this space, Jackie is working with the Canal & Rivers Trust to install a number of fused glass way markers (see images) up and down the canal, between Slawit and Marsden. Plus we are busy planning some free community activities where anyone can book a place, learn a skill, and help us create pieces that will stay in the Garden - for all visitors to enjoy.

There are a number of things on our HAGG Wish List (see posters) that we would love to get second hand (such as gravel and planters), and any money that is donated, will go towards purchasing some of the larger items, such as the shed or greenhouse.

We are aiming to complete our initial stages of the Garden Gallery plans by August 2026, so that we can welcome everyone in over the summer holidays, to enjoy the space and contribute to its up-keep and development, via the free community workshops we plan to host.
