WHO: Fiona Newby is a hand builder who has been playing with mud for over 30 years!
“I love that a raw lump of clay can be transformed into many things from sculpture forms to functional pieces.
My forms have many influences, Mother Earth forms from my university days and life drawing classes. I drew a pregnant model throughout her pregnancy, documenting her beautifully changing body.
Currently my Emotion forms are exploring how we declare we feel, saying one thing but the facts are generally very different and contrasting, these pieces are sculptural möbius forms, where the inside evolves outside and vice versa.”
WHAT: This ArTalk focuses on Fiona’s body of work, the techniques she has developed in her career, and she will be explaining the materials and outcomes of her beautiful ceramic pieces.
*Introduction and history of my ceramic journey and how Fiona has found alternative firings.
*Her practice and how she creates the forms.
