Claire Murray & Alison Wren: Grounded

  • Long Wall Gallery, Globe Arts, Holme Mills West Slaithwaite Road Huddersfield, HD7 6LS United Kingdom (map)

This Winter, Grounded finds its home in The Long Wall Gallery.

Grounded brings together painter Claire Murray and ceramicist Alison Wren in a contemplative dialogue between landscape and form, surface and substance.

Claire Murray is an expressive painter based in Fletcher’s Mill, Dean Clough in Halifax. Claire has been painting for 37 years, teaching art and running her own studio practice, and has work in private collections internationally.

Alison Wren graduated in Ceramic Design in the 1990's and then worked in a contemporary craft gallery for many years, before setting up her own practice in 2016.  Since then she has produced tableware for Michelin-starred chefs and sells her work at fairs and galleries throughout the UK.

Both artists draw deeply from the natural world — its textures, tones and quiet harmonies. Claire’s layered, expressive paintings capture the shifting light, drama and vastness of the northern landscape, while Alison’s wheel-thrown stoneware distils that same connection to nature into calm, balanced forms with subtle, earthy glazes.

Together, their work explores a shared sense of stillness and presence — one rooted in the elements of air and light, the other in earth and clay. Grounded invites viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the material beauty of the world around us.

Join us to celebrate the opening of Grounded on Saturday 13th December from 2pm at The Long Wall Gallery. We’d love to welcome you for chats, drinks and nibbles.
