John Warburton: Treading the Towpath

  • The Long Wall Gallery, Globe Arts, Holme Mills West Slaithwaite Road Huddersfield, HD7 6LS United Kingdom (map)

Following the popular Holme Mills Sculpture Trail sessions, John Warburton brings the canal towpath journey from Marsden to Slaithwaite to life in The Long Wall Gallery, this Winter.

‍We would love for you to join us for the exhibition preview on the 5th December, 12 onwards. Enjoy mulled wine, shortbread and chat with John himself.

'Explore the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and its surroundings through the drawings and watercolour paintings of Colne Valley artist, John Warburton.

His work captures the heritage and beauty of the canal as well as its lasting impact on the character of the Valley.  It is a tribute to the original builders of the canal and to those dedicated individuals who worked passionately to reopen the canal 25 years ago and continue to do so to this day.

He exhibits online and in the north of England, painting from his small studio in Slaithwaite.

You may come across him along the canal towpath, painting and sketching on location, or just hiking in all seasons. He can be found somewhere along the towpath almost every day. Come along for the experience and to immerse yourself in this reflective collection.  He will be happy to chat and show you his work.

John had a long career as an architect, but now is an artist and has made the canal the focus of his attention since moving into the Colne Valley ten years ago. Choosing to document this important heritage in the most accessible way possible.'
