Painting w. Geoff Chilton - 7/8/25 @G2

Join artist Geoff Chilton for this full-day painting workshop

“Gardens and allotments are a treasure trove inspiration for artists. Join artist and tutor Geoff Chilton at the Globe Arts garden in this day-long workshop to explore the potential of this outdoor environment as a creative stimulus.

The first part of the day will be spent investigating the garden and nearby allotments, making sketches and drawings with different media. Geoff will guide you through the process of developing your own ‘vocabulary’ of marks to express what you see and feel.

There will be a short break, after which the sketches you made outside can be developed, in the studio or outside as you prefer, to produce a more considered piece. Here, Geoff will guide you through the compositional and tonal elements to improve your work, and show how the application of different media can add an extra dynamism.

This workshop is an exciting way to develop your personal expression through painting and drawing.

All materials will be provided for the workshop, but if you want to bring any of your own favourite paints and brushes, that’s fine. Similarly, if you have your own sketchbook and favourite pencils and want to work with them, that’s okay too.”

£75 per person or £130 for 2 when you book together (materials, tuition and refreshments included)

Birds & Bees Jewellery workshop w. Frances Noon - 10/5/25 @G1

Make a bird or bee pendant this Spring!

buy a place

WHO: Frances will be your tutor for the day, this workshop is perfect for all abilities; absolute beginners, intermediate or advanced- everyone can achieve a great result in this full day workshop.

WHAT: Birds & bees jewellery workshop, using Pebeo porcelain paint

Learn how to make a pendant or a brooch in metal and then add colour to the surface using pebeo porcelain paints.

On this one day course participants will form a pendant and/or a brooch from sheet metal. This will be hand painted using the pebeo porcelain paint. There is the possibility within the one day course to make a pendant and a brooch piece.

You will first cut out your design from brass sheet metal, using a piercing saw, snips and then filing the edges down so they are smooth. Add details such as eyes and beak definition onto the surface using hammer and punch. This would likely be kept to the minimum, but additional details such as legs can be added in wire and soldered to the piece.

Finally you will use the pebeo porcelain 150 paints to add colour to the surface of your design. As these paints need a 24 hr time period to dry before they are baked in an oven, participants will have to leave their pieces with us for firing.

For pendants you will put together a brass effect chain to the length of your choice. And a brooch back will be glued to any brooches before work is returned via post (+ £3pp) or collected from the studio the following Monday onwards.

WHERE: New Street, Globe 1

WHEN: Saturday 10th May, 10-5pm

WHY: It has tremendous known benefits for your hand-eye coordination, visual perception, and memory. Jewelry making keeps your brain active and fine tunes your motor skills through the grasping of tools and materials, understanding new processes and terms. Crafting contributes greatly to improved self-esteem!

HOW MUCH: £70pp or bring a friend and get 2 tickets for £130 (£65pp)

Please note: If the course/class has less than 5 clients booked, there is a chance of the course/class being cancelled. For this reason, we recommend booking sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. If the course is cancelled, we will offer a full refund or transfer to a similar course/class.

WHO: Geoff Chilton is a fantastic local artist, and is a new addition to our family of studio holders and freelance tutors! Geoff has an amazing artistic background and knowledge to share with you.

WHAT: In this half day workshop, professional artist Geoff Chilton shows you how to free up your landscape painting using mixed media. This workshop is suitable for all abilities - a great opportunity for beginners & intermediates to grow their confidence and develop skills!
